BSG2020 POSTPONED TO
8-11 FEBRUARY 2021
Coronavirus Covid-19 update
13 March 2020
From the BSG President
Since my last posting, the Senior Officers of the BSG along with our CEO Mark Hacker and our conference partners, have been taking daily advice and reviewing the situation regarding our meeting in Liverpool 2020.
The situation is changing rapidly, and predictably, a pandemic has been declared by the WHO. How this will unfold in the UK is difficult to forecast, but the next 4 months will be critical and as a professional membership organisation, and as individuals, we now have the opportunity to choose how to react.
Whilst as a charity we must do all we can to ensure the sustainability of the BSG organisation, as doctors and health care professionals, we have an ethical duty of care to our patients and to our colleagues in the current crisis. With this in mind, taking the right decision early, rather than creating further uncertainty is the correct thing to do.
Over the last 3 weeks, the BSG senior team have considered this carefully and have decided that the ethical and correct action is to postpone BSG2020 until 8-11 February 2021.
We already have an excellent programme arranged and hope that our GI and Hepatology community will come together to celebrate the best of our specialty, once we have supported the current health care priorities in our own hospitals in the UK.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support at this time.
